Box Hill's youth have been featuring prominently over the past couple of weeks at a host of National Championship Carnivals.

In the Cricket Australia Women's Cup held in NSW last week, Meghann Lanning put together a composed 129 not out off 154 balls against Queensland in the second round to steer Victoria to a close fought two wicket win.

Meg also scored 60 against South Australia, 59 not out against Western Australia and 40 against the ACT in a fine run of form. She finished the carnival with 312 runs from 6 innings at an average of 78.0 which we hope has provided her a solid base for the remainder of the season both at Box Hill and with the VicSpirit and Shooting Stars. Whilst not having the same success as older sister Meg, Anna Lanning contributed an important 11 runs from 11 balls against ACT in a match which was eventually won by Victoria in a bowl off. Victoria were eventually runners up to New South Wales.

Tom Smyth started the Under 19 National Championships with 3 for 6 off 3 overs against the Northern Territory and has continued to consistently take wickets. After 5 matches Tom has taken 7 wickets at an average of 14.7 and economy rate 3.6. In the most recently completed match against WA Tom took 4 catches. This took his catches tally for the series to 6, 2 ahead of the wicket keeper! The Chamionships started on 29th November in Canberra and there are three days of play remaining. The Vics are currently sitting second on the ladder behind NSW. We wish Tom the best of luck for the remainder of the Championship.

In the Under 15 Female National Championships Box Hill is very well represented by captain, Kate Dempsey, Bec Carter and Sarah Chancellor Goddard, along with regional recruit Georgie North. The Championships began on the 2nd December and there are two days of play remaining, with Victoria currently undefeated and requiring a win against Queensland tomorrow to ensure finishing top of the table.

Sarah Chancellor Goddard has been the most consistent performer to date scoring a total of 61 runs across three innings without the loss of wicket. she has also taken 2 wickets from 12 overs at an average of 13.5 and tidy economy rate of 2.3. North East Country's, Georgie North has scored a total of 101 runs at an average of 25.3 and partnered with Bec Carter today to account for Tasmania's paultry total of 20 runs off just 9 balls. The Captain, Kate Dempsey, started slowly in the Championships, but put together a solid innings of 52 off 38 balls today in what we hope will see a turn around in form. Unfortunately Bec was short on opportunities today against Tasmania with Victoria scoring 3/125 in the first of two Twenty20 matches and then chasing down the target of 21 in the second Twenty20 in just 9 balls. Bec scored 3no and 0no respectively.

We wish all of the girls good luck for the coming two days and hope that Victoria can bring home the siverware.
